Three by Sara Petty
Short animations by Sara Petty
Related: [ New Acquisition ]

In three films we get a glimpse of the early works of 2D animator, Sara Petty. At times playful, at times introspective, Petty's images are rich in texture as well as aesthetics. These works are beautiful motion studies that flow with quiet ease and grace that has not faded with age. Included are: Furies, Picture Window, and Shadrac

DVD: 9min

Will this work be available for individual purchases? I've been dying to see Furies after seeing a couple of seconds of it in Abstract Cinema.

I've been thinking of Sarah lately, she was an inspiration to the best animators at Disney, an artist. Her beautiful pastels defied black same-width outlining and non-gradated color-fill, plus, where's the gags? The producer on Fantasia 2000, heir to Bach, Tchaikovsky, Stravinsky, Beethoven, Moussorgsky, veteran producer of "Gilligan's Island" TV series failed to make the connection with Sarah, but I think I remember surging horses in her amazing series of what seemed like hundreds of renderings. The lap-dissolve film of that work was amazing. As an effects animator, it would have been amazingly edifying and a great honor to make the piece (Beethoven's Fifth) work. Jeff Howard

Sara, please make your films available!

I would love to be able to purchase Sara's films for our library here at the Evergreen State College. We have a 16mm print of Preludes in Magical Time that we got from Creative Film Society when they went out of business, but we really need Furies, and it would be great to have all Sara's films if they are on dvd.
