Audri Phillips is a Los Angeles based artist currently working in a variety of mediums that range from computer animations, video art (visual poetry), oil paintings and spoken word pieces (VJ style).
She has also worked for over 25 years as an artist/digital artist in the entertainment industry in Los Angeles on feature films, games, ride films and commercials. She creates online content for Intel as well as a blog.
Always interested in new tools she has been a pioneer of using digital art in experimental film work.
A founding member of the Los Angeles Abstract Film Group, Alternate Sight and a member of the Iota Center she has shown her personal digital videos/experimental animations at film festivals, such as, Not Still Art, 1995 Siggraph Animation Festival, the Los Angeles Film Forum at the Egyptian theater, Pacific Design Center, the Stereo Club of Southern California, BillBoard Live and one of her animations “Corroded Ethereal Visions” can be found on the Siggraph Video Review tapes for 1995.


Q&A with Phillips about its making, at the January 2010 iotaSalon:
Paintings of hers have appeared in films such as Konchalovsky’s “Shy People,” rock videos such as Madonna’s, “Open Your Heart”, the Beastie Boys’, “Shadrach” (which she art directed) and “Whatsupwitu” a Michael Jackson, Eddie Murphy animated rock video which she also art directed.
She has also exhibited her oil paintings and digital work at a number of galleries in the Los Angeles area such as LACDA ,Upstairs at the Market Street Gallery, DreamWorks Feature Animation gallery, The Los Angeles Rental and Sales Gallery, Site Gallery, The Director’s Guild, The Downey Museum of Art, The El Pueblo gallery, White Oak Art Association, Carlotta’s Passion, Cal State Poly Art Gallery, Site Gallery, Beyond Baroque, Fine Good Art Gallery, Van Gogh’s Ear, Burbage Theater, Annex Bookstore, BeBop Records and Fine Arts, the Art Instiute of Chicago Rental and Sales Gallery, and the Meta-Natural Dream Gallery.”¨
She has organized events such as “Melons on Melrose” an art festival connected with the Fringe Festival and the “Bubble Wrap Walk” featuring the Divine Order of Consumers.”¨”¨She has read her spoken word poetry at Max 10 at the Electronic Lodge, Mount St. Mary’s College, The Art Space, Lulu’s Alabi, Beyond Baroque, and the Who’s On Third Street Café.
Working in the entertainment industry has given her an advanced knowledge of software and cinematography that she has been able to use to advantage in her own work. She has worked at such large studios as Disney Feature Animation, Sony Imageworks,  DreamWorks Feature Animation, Rhythm and Hues, Digital Domain, and Electronic Arts as well as a number of small design boutiques.  Her production experience includes art direction/design/visual development /storyboards/color and lighting/efx/layout/modeling/compositing. Some of her favorite projects were; working at Electronic Arts on game lighting, Digital Artist on Spiderman, and Stuart Little 2, Harry Potter, art direction and design on a computer animated ride film based on the “Yellow Submarine” Beatles film for Sony, Titles for the Film Invasion.”¨
No stranger to teaching she has been a digital educator/online content creator at Intel, Disney, Dreamworks and Lynda.com. She has taught art and the digital arts as an adjunct professor at different universities and colleges in the LA area, such as Otis, Studio Arts, Chaffey Community College, Academy of Art San Francisco. Currently she is happily an adjunct professor at Woodbury University.
Phillips holds a BFA from Carnegie-Mellon University.
