This collection of 12 works by Edward Zajec, produced bythe oko;uho: Institute for Art and Technology in Maribor (SI) in collaboration with the Museum of Contemporary Art in Zagreb (HR), aims to showcase his contribution to time-variant color composition-Orphics. Throughout these two decades Zajec’s focus was on developing new ideas and computer-based techniques for the articulation of color in time, seeking a visual language that would merge the fluid qualities of sound with the radiant nature of light.
Born in Trieste, Italy (’38), Edward Zajec studied painting at the Fine Arts Academy in Ljubljana (SI), and at Ohio University (MFA ’68). During the same year, he started working with computers, while teaching at Carleton College in Northfield (MN). In 1980 he wrote the curriculum and established the computer graphics laboratory at Syracuse
University. His work has been shown at museums and art venues around the world. Most recently he was the subject of several retrospectives, at the Centre for Graphic Arts in Ljubljana (SI), at the WRO Art Center in Wroclaw (PL), at the oko;uho: Center for Art & Technology in Maribor ( SI), and at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Zagreb (HR).
