Stephanie Sapienza

Stephanie has a master’s degree in Moving Image Archive Studies from UCLA, where she specialized in issues of access for film and video collections, with a special interest in experimental film and animation. She has been involved with programming and promoting experimental filmmaking in LA since 2001 when she began volunteering for Los Angeles Filmforum, the city’s longest running series devoted to screenings of experimental and alternative work by independent artists. She is now the Board President of that organization, a partnership that has proved mutually beneficial for both organizations.

In addition to her work for iotaCenter, she is also the Project Director for Alternative Projections: Experimental Film in Los Angeles 1945 – 1980, a Getty grant project being undertaken by Filmforum to research and plan for a 2011 exhibition on postwar experimental filmmakers in LA. iotaCenter is assisting Filmforum with this project since it is one of the two archival repositories with holdings from the Creative Film Society collection, a major distributor of experimental work from the postwar era.
